Challenges & Goals: LIVE Project – Turning Multilingualism into Empowerment

The LIVE Project (Linguistic Integration for Vibrant Education) was born from the growing need to recognize, support, and empower multilingual individuals—especially in increasingly diverse communities across Europe.

At the start of the project, we conducted a SWOT analysis to better understand the current landscape of multilingualism in Austria and beyond. The findings highlighted important challenges:

  • A lack of awareness and appreciation for linguistic diversity

  • Persistent language stigmatization, especially toward non-dominant or migrant languages

  • A need for more inclusive learning spaces

  • Gaps in resources for youth workers and educators to effectively support multilingual youth

Our goals are clear:
- Raise awareness about the value of all languages
- Foster cultural confidence in multilingual individuals
- Equip educators with tools to create safe, non-formal spaces for learning
- Encourage youth to take ownership of their languages – no matter where or how they learned them

Introducing the LIVE App – Learning Languages with Confidence

As part of the project, we’re developing the LIVE App—a digital tool designed to support users in building language confidence through self-reflection, interactive content, and AI-powered support.

Unlike traditional learning apps, the LIVE App is grounded in the iLanguage concept, which sees every language you speak as part of your identity. Whether you learned it as a child or picked it up later in life, your language is yours.

The app helps users:

  • Reflect on their multilingual identity

  • Learn and practice languages in a safe, empowering space

  • Gain the confidence to use their skills in real-world interactions

The LIVE App will be officially launched and tested during the training week in Vienna (June 2025), giving participants the chance to shape its future.

Together, we’re creating tools that not only teach languages—but celebrate them.
